At 7pm tonight, in Science Hall, the University of Wisconsin will welcome a speech by a known terrorism advocate: Mads Gilbert. This shameful event is yet another black mark on a campus known for widespread anti-American and anti-semitic sympathies.
For those who do not know Mads Gilbert, he is a medical doctor who is closely aligned with the Norwegian Red Party and Workers’ Communist Party, which openly expressed support for both Stalin and Pol Pot.
Mads Gilbert famously supported the 9/11 attacks, telling the Norwegian daily newspaper Dagbladet “If the U.S. government has a legitimate right to bomb and kill civilians in Iraq, then there is also a moral right to attack the United States”. When the shocked reporter asked if that meant that he supported terrorist attacks against the United States, he responded: “Terror is a bad weapon, but the answer is yes, within the context I have mentioned.”
Mads Gilbert has more recently been in the news for his work on behalf of the terrorist group Hamas. Spending time in Gaza during Operation Cast Lead, Gilbert spread anti-semitic hate through the media and was caught participating in a staged medical procedure for a Hamas propaganda video.
When Mr. Gilbert comes to campus he will surely use language more palatable to an American audience. He’ll attack “Zionists” instead of “Jews”, and he’ll declare that he just wants a “one-state solution in Israel” rather than “genocide of all Israeli Jews”. But those that are even minimally informed will be able to see through the euphemisms.
For the record, the groups that have co-sponsored this abomination are: Madison Rafah Sister City Project, Students for Justice in Palestine at U.W., Middle East Studies Program, the International Socialist Organization, the Havens Center and Haymarket Books.
