A Message from the Chair
I’m sure many of you
are asking yourselves, “Who the heck is Mike Herl?” Well, let’s see how short I
can keep this.
I was raised in a very strict Republican home in northern Colorado by my parents
along with a brother and two sisters. At age 19, I moved to Arizona to go to
school. After a few semesters, I was offered a touring job with a well-known
entertainment act. I decided to take the semester off to see the world and live
the life of rock stars. It lasted a little longer than one semester. In fact,
17 years longer than I had originally intended. During that time, I worked with
the band Cheap Trick for 10 years. I was asked to move to Madison as the bands’
management was based here. I ended up falling in love with an office staff
member (my wife of 14 years and mother of our two children) and am forever stuck
in the People’s Republic.
After spending 17 years in the entertainment business, I made a decision to
change careers in order to spend more time with my family. In January of 2002,
I started as a commercial broker and currently practice throughout the State of
Wisconsin.
I have been a volunteer for the RPDC for over eight years, winning the Campbell
Award twice. With my real estate connections, I have placed election offices
for Mark Green in Wausau as well as negotiating a great deal for the RPDC in
Madison. I have assembled countless yard signs, made thousands of phone calls
and attended many fundraisers. I also worked heavily on the campaigns for “W”
in 2000 and 2004.
I have a beautiful wife, an 11 year old son and an 8 year old daughter. I am
active in school functions with my kids as well as sitting on four local Boards
of Directors. I have coached youth sports through the YMCA for the past five
years and I am head coach for the 6th grade Middleton tackle football program.
In short, I am always out and about in the community.
As the months move ahead, I will explain in greater detail the very soul of my
conservative beliefs. For now, simply understand that I am all about rugged
individualism, entrepreneurship and less government control in every aspect of
every-day life. I believe that there is more good in a person than there is
bad. I believe “some” of our friends and neighbors on the Left can be won over
and brought over to our side. I believe that good people have meant well in
their desire to better things through the use of government programs. But, I
also believe that others have taken advantage of these programs and, as a
result, we now have 50% taxation on the middle class.
Mostly I want to leave you with this - nobody and no government can spend your
hard-earned money better than you can. Nobody!
Until the next issue of Facts, be well.
Mike
